Sabak Bernam village gateway competition to become an annual event

SUNGAI BESAR, Nov 5 — The village gateway decoration competition in Sabak Bernam will be included as part of the annual Ban Canal Carnival after an encouraging response that highlighted unity and gotong-royong among local residents.

Sabak Bernam Development Area (SABDA) assistant general manager and Special Unit head Kamarul Zaki Khalid said the creativity displayed by residents was commendable despite the relatively short preparation period.

“Although the preparation time was rather short, the results showcased were very satisfying thanks to the strong commitment from the village residents.

“Looking at the encouraging response, it will be elevated into an annual event in Sabak Bernam under the organisation of the Ban Canal Carnival,” he said.

Sabak Bernam District Chief Penghulu Jumasri Jumin said the competition demonstrated the community’s cooperation and commitment to beautifying and improving the appearance of their respective villages.

“The commitment shown by all participants was extraordinary; their dedication and unity were clearly reflected in the results displayed. This is the true beauty of Sabak Bernam, where the community’s spirit of gotong-royong remains strong,” he said.

The competition featured several villages showcasing gateways and landmarks decorated with their own unique designs and identities.

Among the participating villages were Kampung Sungai Apong, Kampung Teluk Rhu, Tebuk Mufrad, Kampung Baharu, Kampung Batu 37 Darat, Kampung Parit 1 Barat, and Kampung Tanjung Medan.

Also taking part were Kampung Parit 7 Baroh Sekinchan, Kampung Baru Site C Sekinchan, Kampung Parit 16 Binjai Jaya, and Kampung Desa Warisan.

To recognise the villagers’ creativity and effort, the competition offered cash prizes of RM3,000 for first place, RM2,000 for second place, and RM1,000 for third place.

The competition aimed to enhance the appearance of village landscapes, strengthen neighbourhood ties, and foster cooperation among local residents.
