Selangor Sultan urges unity against divisive external influences

SHAH ALAM, Nov 7 — Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has called on the people to strengthen unity and mutual understanding to guard against external influences seeking to sow hatred and division, particularly through social media.

His Royal Highness said the public’s observance of various festivals reflected the importance of tolerance and mutual respect in maintaining social harmony.

In a Deepavali message posted on the Selangor Royal Office Facebook page, the Ruler said such celebrations are not merely observed as traditions but also serve as a platform to strengthen unity among people of different races and religions.

“The spirit of mutual respect, visiting one another and sharing joy must continue to be nurtured to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood among the people.

“Drawing lessons from current developments, His Royal Highness believes that strong mutual understanding and tolerance… serve as an important shield against external elements, particularly through social media, that seek to sow hatred, create divisions and undermine national peace.”

Sultan Sharafuddin and Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin also extended their Deepavali greetings to all Malaysian Hindus, particularly those in Selangor.

Their Royal Highnesses expressed hope that Deepavali would bring happiness and well-being to the community, while strengthening the resolve of all Malaysians to safeguard the country’s harmony.
