Selangor commits RM2.1m to improve living conditions at three PPRs

HULU SELANGOR, Nov 2 — The Selangor government has allocated RM2.1 million this year for repair works at three People's Housing Projects (PPR) in Kampung Baru Hicom, Kota Damansara and Serendah.

State housing executive councillor Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said the allocation reflected the state government's commitment to ensuring that existing housing facilities are properly maintained and improved for the well-being of residents.

"This commitment demonstrates that the state government's efforts do not end with providing homes for the people, but also extend to ensuring that existing housing facilities continue to be maintained and improved for the well-being of their residents.

"Besides focusing on maintenance and repair works at existing PPRs, the state government is also strengthening cooperation with the federal government, particularly the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), to expand housing provision for low-income groups," he said.

He said this while speaking at the Strata Community Rewang Programme at Pangsapuri Seri Kiambang (PPR Serendah) here on Saturday night.

According to Borhan, ongoing efforts to expand public housing include the development of the Harmoni Madani People's Residency Programme (PRR) in Bestari Jaya and plans for another PRR project in Dengkil, Sepang.

He also said the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) took over the management of PPR Lembah Subang 1 from KPKT on April 1 to ensure more efficient, systematic and effective management of public housing.

Meanwhile, the Strata Community Rewang Programme, introduced by the state government in 2024, serves as a platform to strengthen neighbourhood ties and revive the spirit of gotong-royong (communal cooperation) among residents.

The programme also provides opportunities for government departments and agencies to engage directly with communities and deliver services to residents.

Themed ‘Sehati Bersama Rakyat’ (United with the People), the programme featured various activities, including recreational games for children, adults and senior citizens, communal clean-up activities and traditional communal food preparation known as rewang.

A Ziarah Kasih outreach programme was also held to visit families and gain a better understanding of the living conditions of local residents.
