CYBERJAYA, Nov 1 — A total of 5,826 participants took part in the Selangor Marathon (SELMAR) 2026, including 42 international participants from the United States, the United Kingdom, various African nations, France, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
Tourism Selangor assistant manager for events and tourism Harith Hadziq Shaik Mohd Sheriff, said the event not only encourages a healthy lifestyle but also promotes Selangor as a sports tourism destination.
Harith said the event also showcased traditional food and cultural performances to introduce the state’s unique heritage to visitors.
“Participation across these various categories not only enlivens sporting activities but also fosters a healthy lifestyle and promotes Selangor as a tourism destination.
“The event also provides an opportunity for the community, including children with disabilities, to take part in the running activities,” he told reporters when met at the SELMAR 2026 event at Persiaran Flora today.
Harith noted that the event also received support from the cerebral palsy community through ‘Bikeisable,’ with children with disabilities participating using specialised wheelchairs.
He also said international participants benefit the local community, particularly in accommodation, food, and tourism.
“International visitors are not only participating in the run but also have the chance to explore interesting locations, enjoy local cuisine, and get to know the culture of Selangor.
“We also highlighted traditional food from the Sepang district, alongside performances by the ‘Bale Bale’ group and a Bhangra troupe, to showcase the unique culture of Selangor; especially to our international guests,” he said.
SELMAR 2026 offers four race categories: 42 kilometres (km), 21km, 10km, and 5km, including participation for children with special needs, who may take part alongside their parents using specialised wheelchairs.
