SHAH ALAM, Oct 28 — A 76-year-old man died after being run over by a lorry while cycling in front of a bank along Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad in Banting yesterday.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director Ashrul Riezal Asbar was quoted by Kosmo as saying that the department received an emergency call about the incident at 7.21 pm.
Six personnel from the Banting Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene, about 2 km from the station, arriving approximately three minutes later.
"The operations commander reported that the accident involved a lorry and a bicycle. The victim, an elderly man, was run over and pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel," he said.
Ashrul added that the victim's identity had yet to be established and that the case had been handed over to the police for further action.
In a separate incident in Hulu Selangor, a car driven by a 53-year-old Malaysian man skidded and collided with a lorry after hitting a wild boar in Kalumpang at 7.16 am today.
Ashrul said a team of firefighters and a fire engine from the Kuala Kubu Bharu Fire and Rescue Station were dispatched to the scene to assist with the rescue operation.
"Upon arrival, the operations commander found the victim trapped and unconscious. Firefighters immediately carried out an operation to extricate him from the vehicle."
He said the operation concluded at 7.50 am, with the victim handed over to Health Ministry personnel for further action.
