SUNGAI BULOH, Oct 21 — A total of 133 of 171 individuals screened were detained after testing positive for drugs in the National Anti-Drug Agency's (AADK) Ops Perdana across six districts in Selangor from Monday (October 19) until today.
Its deputy director-general (Operations) Zainudin Abdullah said the operation was carried out based on Selangor AADK intelligence, which identified areas behind houses and remote locations as among the main sites for drug abuse and trafficking, particularly methamphetamine and heroin.
These activities largely took place between 8am and 10pm, with an estimated 30 to 60 individuals visiting each identified location daily to obtain drug supplies.
"Methamphetamine, or syabu, recorded the highest number, involving 72 individuals, followed by heroin (24 individuals) and cannabis (eight individuals).
"AADK also detected 29 individuals using ketum leaves or mitragynine," he told the media after a raid under the operation today.
Zainudin added that those detained comprised 130 men and three women aged between 19 and 61, held under Section 31 of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983. All were taken to the Petaling District AADK Office for documentation.
Ops Perdana was carried out in Petaling, Kuala Langat, Gombak, Sepang, Hulu Langat, and Klang, involving 20 officers and 100 personnel.
In a related development, he said that AADK has carried out 4,253 operations nationwide so far, with 30,157 individuals detained between January and Sunday (October 18).
Zainudin also encouraged those involved in drug and ketum abuse to come forward voluntarily to their district or state AADK offices, or the Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (Puspen) to seek treatment and rehabilitation.
