Pearly-Thinaah reign supreme in Denmark, ending 18-year drought

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 — National badminton pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah ended Malaysia's 18-year wait for the Denmark Open women's doubles title after defeating Japan's Hinata Suzuki and Nao Yamakita yesterday.

In the final at Jyske Bank Arena in Odense, the world No 5 pair faced little difficulty in securing a straight-games victory, winning 21-18, 21-11 in just 36 minutes.

The last Malaysian women's doubles pair to win the Denmark Open title were Chin Eei Hui and Wong Pei Tty in 2008.

The victory marked Pearly-Thinaah's second title of the year, following their triumph at the Indonesia Masters earlier this year.

Malaysia also have a chance to secure another Denmark Open title, with top men's doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik set to face Indonesia's Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri in the final.
