KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — Three Malaysian pairs — Pearly Tan-Thinaah Muralitharan, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Hoo Pang Ron-Lai Pei Jing — powered into the semi-finals of their respective events at the Denmark Open today.
Women’s doubles pair Pearly-Thinaah overcame a first game loss to notch their eighth consecutive win against India’s Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand Pullela 14-21, 21-17, 21-11, to set up a semi-final meeting against China’s Bao Li Jing-Cao Zi Han.
Fourth seeds Aaron-Wooi Yik beat Japan’s Japan’s Hiroki Okamura-Kyohei Yamashita 21-16, 21-18 in the men’s doubles quarter-final at SJF Bank Arena in Odense today and will face top seeds Kim Won-ho-Seo Seung-jae of South Korea in the semi-finals.
In the mixed doubles, Pang Ron-Pei Jin put on a brilliant display to defeat Japan’s Akira Koga-Natsu Saito 21-15, 24-22.
A daunting challenge awaits them in the semi-final, as they take on world No.1 pair Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping from China.
Luck was not on the side of men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani today as they ended their campaign after a 55-minute fight against China’s Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang.
Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin took the opening game with a spirited performance but were unable to sustain the momentum, eventually succumbing 21-18, 18-21, 15-21 to the better-ranked Chinese pair.
