SHAH ALAM, Oct 16 — The Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) will deploy additional wild boar traps at Taman Vista Mutiara in Kajang following residents' concerns over the animals entering their neighbourhood.
Kajang assemblyman David Cheong said the move was announced after he and Selangor Perhilitan director Rahmah Ilias visited the area to assess the situation.
"We visited the area following complaints from residents about the presence of wild boars. According to them, the animals may be entering the residential area at night in search of food," he told Media Selangor.
He said the hilly, forested area behind the houses was believed to be the wild boars' habitat, with the animals venturing out at night to forage before returning to the forest in the morning.
"The presence of wild boars not only disturbs residents but also raises safety concerns, as the animals are capable of chasing or attacking people with their tusks.
"They have also entered residents' gardens despite fences being installed around their homes. The wild boars can still find their way in," he said.

Following the incidents, residents are planning to install stronger fencing to prevent the animals from entering the neighbourhood, at an estimated cost of between RM70,000 and RM80,000.
Cheong said residents had raised about half the required amount but were still short of more than RM30,000 to carry out the fencing project.
He said his office would help secure funding from relevant agencies and consider contributing towards resolving the problem.
"I will forward their application to the Selangor Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) and will also contribute funds from my own office," he said.
