SHAH ALAM, Oct 14 — The public has been urged to stay away from a collapsed retaining wall along Jalan Nilam 1 amid fears of further landslides following several days of heavy rain.
The Star reported that Kajang state assemblyman David Cheong said visible cracks around the site posed a safety risk, with the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) taking temporary measures to prevent the public from approaching the affected area.
The local authority is clearing the debris and has placed barriers around the collapsed wall.
MPKj has also covered the exposed soil with tarpaulin as a temporary precaution while preparing a report to determine the remedial works required.
“There is still the risk of further landslips as it has been raining heavily for the past couple of days,” he said.
The 5m high retaining wall collapsed on Monday (October 12) following ground movement caused by prolonged heavy rain, damaging three cars and three motorcycles.
No injuries or fatalities were reported, while one car sustained minor damage and was subsequently driven away.
The wall separates Jalan Nilam 1 from the Hindu temple uphill, which is undergoing renovation.
An eyewitness, operations officer Nabihah Ramly, said the incident occurred between 4.50pm and 5pm while she and her colleagues were preparing to leave their office.
They heard a loud noise before rushing towards the area and discovered that the wall had collapsed.
“We ran towards the source of the sound and found that the wall had collapsed,” she said.
Nabihah added that the retaining wall had been recently heightened, with the new added section appearing to have given way while the original structure remained intact.
She urged the authorities to address the situation promptly to prevent further damage and protect workers and nearby residents.
