KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 — Selangor is expanding its smart city infrastructure with key initiatives including a 335km fibre optic network, 700 smart multipurpose poles, and 1,800 AI-enabled cameras, starting with Shah Alam, said Menteri besar Selangor (Incorporation), or MBI.
MBI Group’s Strategy Division head Muhammad Hudhaifa Ahmad said the initiative under Smartsel Sdn Bhd aims to improve public services and make residents’ daily lives easier by integrating digital technology.
“However, technology alone does not make a smart city. What matters is how technology improves public services and people’s daily lives.
“Our ambition is to move beyond isolated digital projects towards integrated citizen-centric digital government,” he said during his presentation at Selangor Investment Forum (SIF), held in conjunction with Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS), at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today.
He said the initiative would open up investment opportunities in digital connectivity, AI, cybersecurity and digital platforms, including the recently launched NINE app, which he called the first state-centric super app.

Beyond smart city development, Hudhaifa identified water management, urban rejuvenation, energy infrastructure and aerospace as other sectors with investment potential.
“MBI is developing an integrated water ecosystem covering water supply, wastewater recycling, smart metering and renewable energy solutions,” he said, highlighting opportunities in water technology and infrastructure.
In the aerospace sector, Hudhaifa said the Selangor Aero Park (SAP)@KLIA Aeropolis is being developed as an about 243ha industrial ecosystem, with GE Aerospace identified as its launch tenant and around 40ha allocated for Phase 1.
“MBI’s investment ecosystem comprises 32 direct subsidiaries and 72 active indirect subsidiaries, employing more than 11,000 people across sectors including property, water, energy, healthcare, education and digital infrastructure," he said.
Hudhaifa added that MBI seeks to work with private investors to combine capital, expertise, technology and access to international markets to support Selangor’s economic development.
SIBS, now in its 10th edition, is being held until Saturday.
Organised by Invest Selangor Bhd, the summit gathers local and international investors, businesses, and industry leaders to explore investment opportunities, strengthen partnerships, and support Selangor’s economic growth.
