KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 — Around one in four micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Malaysia operate in Selangor, with the number approaching 270,000 businesses and expected to continue rising.
State executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han said this reflects Selangor’s important role as one of Malaysia's key hubs for MSME growth, supported by a conducive business ecosystem and extensive investment opportunities.
“Approximately one in four MSMEs in Malaysia is based in Selangor. The number is approaching 270,000 businesses.
“These include family-owned factories, food and retail brands, as well as technology start-ups that provide jobs for our people and continue to drive the economy.
“Our task is to remove barriers that limit the potential of promising businesses, including limited access to financing, markets, talent, and business networks. That is what this programme is doing,” he said.
Ng was speaking at the Selangor Triple Accelerator Programme 2026 Final Demo Day at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today.
He added that the programme’s 14th cohort received 511 applications, with only 90 start-ups progressing to the Showcase Days stage, which began in August.
The Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (SIDEC) had received more than 2,200 applications and supported 470 start-ups through the programme, with financing totalling RM216 million.
“My message to every founder and every MSME in Selangor is clear: the state government is always with you. SIDEC’s doors are always open, and so are mine,” Ng said.
The Selangor Triple Accelerator Programme 2026 featured three categories: Deep-X, Retail-X, and Token-X, with the overall winner taking home RM20,000 in cash.
Winners in the Deep-X and Token-X categories will also have the opportunity to attend Hong Kong FinTech Week next month, while the Retail-X winner will travel to Shanghai, China, and receive TikTok Shop training at multinational technology company ByteDance.
