SHAH ALAM, Oct 13 — After 25 years of excellence, the Selangor Housing and Property Board is moving forward with its inclusive housing push for Selangoreans, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He added that LPHS should use its silver jubilee as a new opportunity to assess its performance and decide its next steps.
“There are several areas we need to improve in the future, among them are solutions to abandoned (housing projects). This is an issue that encompasses many matters. In Selangor we have a long list, and at the same time there is intervention by the state government.
“Maybe this could become LPHS’ focus for the next 25 years; how we want to end the issue of abandoned housing, certainly with cooperation from the Housing and Local Government Ministry,” he said at the Housing Aspirations Night, held in conjunction with Malaysian States’ Housing Symposium, here last night.

The LPHS event, themed “Building Legacies, Creating Futures”, was attended by state executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah and state housing agency representatives from all over Malaysia.
At the event, Media Selangor Sdn Bhd (MSSB) received the Strategic Synergy Award (Media Category), which Borhan presented to MSSB corporate communications head Mahadi Mohd Mustafa.
Meanwhile, Amirudin said LPHS’ role is changing with Selangor’s rapid growth, which is seeing an expanding population and development of urban areas, as well as greater demand for housing.
He added that LPHS, which was gazetted in 2001, now helps draft and implement policies, coordinate housing distribution, and monitor affordable housing provisions.
“Today, its role also encompasses the coordination of strata property management with local authorities, efforts to empower communities’ quality of life, and the management of price-controlled property.
“This development shows how an institution can tailor its services to the people’s needs,” Amirudin said.
