SEPANG, Oct 12 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was granted an audience with the King of Jordan King Abdullah II at the Bunga Raya Complex (BRC) of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
The audience was part of the monarch's two-day state visit to Malaysia, which began yesterday at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia.
Anwar arrived at BRC at 12.50pm, accompanied by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, and Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.
Also present were Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Zulkifli Hasan and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
The half-hour audience provided an opportunity to further strengthen the longstanding friendship and bilateral relations between Malaysia and Jordan, particularly in education, trade and cooperation on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Both countries share a common commitment to advancing peace, justice, and lasting stability in West Asia, particularly in upholding the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
His Majesty's visit marks the second state visit to Malaysia since May 2008 and comes as both nations commemorate more than six decades of diplomatic relations established in 1965.
Education remains a cornerstone of bilateral relations, with more than 1,490 Jordanian students currently studying at Malaysian higher education institutions.
Both nations continue to promote educational exchanges, academic collaboration, and expertise sharing, while expanding cooperation in scientific research.
On the economic front, bilateral trade between Malaysia and Jordan reached RM993.4 million in 2025, up 15.2 per cent from 2024. Trade continued its positive momentum from January to August 2026, growing by eight per cent to RM740.7 million compared with the corresponding period last year.
The state visit reflects both countries' continued commitment to strengthening diplomatic engagement and expanding cooperation across areas of mutual interest.
