SHAH ALAM, Oct 12 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj emphasised that there must be no compromise on the performance and quality of solid waste management and public cleansing services as the state adopts the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672).

His Royal Highness said the timeliness and frequency of rubbish collection must be maintained or improved to ensure that changes to the solid waste management system do not affect the quality of services provided to the public.

“There must be no compromise or deterioration in the performance and quality of waste management and public cleansing services, including in terms of the timeliness and frequency of collection,” Sultan Sharafuddin said in a media statement by Istana Alam Shah today.

The Ruler also noted the importance of this matter, given the large population of Selangor that relies on these services throughout the state.

In this regard, His Royal Highness hopes the tripartite agreement involving the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT), the state government, and local authorities can be finalised promptly for the people's benefit.

Previously, the state government had expected a decision on adopting Act 672 to be finalised by the end of this year or early 2027, paving the way for Selangor to become the eighth state to adopt the Act.

Sultan Sharafuddin reviewed the latest developments during two separate audiences: one with Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming on Thursday (October 8), and another with Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari and State Secretary Dato' Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin on Saturday (October 10).

Both audiences followed the Sultan's recent visit to the Amager Bakke, also known as CopenHill, waste-to-energy (WTE) plant in Copenhagen, Denmark.

During his audience, Nga informed His Royal Highness that comprehensive efforts at the local authority level have been completed, while all stakeholders remained committed to finalising the process of adopting Act 672.

The adoption of the Act is expected to enable Selangor to benefit from higher standards of solid waste management and public cleansing, supported by additional funding from the federal government through KPKT.

The Ruler also hopes that plans to develop WTE plants in Selangor can proceed and be expedited, with appropriate facilitation from the federal government.
