SHAH ALAM, Oct 11 — Initiatives announced under Budget 2027 to strengthen the country’s mobility and public transport systems are expected to encourage greater public transport use in Selangor.
State executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han highlighted the MyKOMUTER50 initiative, which offers an unlimited monthly pass for KTM Komuter services at RM50, as well as plans to build 22km of covered pedestrian walkways in Kuala Lumpur.
“Anwar’s announcement reflects the Madani government’s long-term commitment to encouraging greater use of public transport and reducing reliance on private vehicles among Klang Valley residents, including those in Selangor.
“To encourage public transport use, the Selangor government has already introduced a RM30 public transport fare subsidy for users of demand-responsive transit (DRT) and KTM Komuter services,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.
Ng added that efforts to improve connectivity across Selangor, particularly through the Smart Selangor Bus programme and pedestrian walkways, were being pursued under the Selangor Budget 2027 framework.
He welcomed the federal government’s announcements, adding that the state government would continue to improve public transport connectivity and accessibility.
“The state government and local authorities in Selangor remain committed to improving residents’ quality of life through policies and measures aimed at increasing public transport use across the Klang Valley,” he said.
On Friday, when tabling Budget 2027, Anwar said some 40,000 KTM Komuter users stand to benefit from the MYKOMUTER50 incentive next year, which is expected to save users up to RM160 a month.
Additionally, he announced that free passes will be given to 360,000 schoolchildren, the disabled community, and children under six, while the My50 facility will continue for Prasarana bus and rail users in the Klang Valley.
Meanwhile, the state’s public transport fare subsidy provides RM30 a month for six months to 50,000 eligible recipients under the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package.
