KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will undertake a two-day state visit to Malaysia beginning today at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that El-Sisi will be accompanied by Cabinet ministers and senior government officials on his first state visit to Malaysia since assuming office in June 2014.
"Malaysia and Egypt established diplomatic relations in 1959. Both countries have since maintained warm and cordial relations through robust cooperation at both the bilateral and multilateral levels.
"The state visit by President El-Sisi is expected to further strengthen this longstanding partnership through the elevation of bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership," the ministry, also known as Wisma Putra, said.
During the visit, El-Sisi will be accorded a state welcoming ceremony, followed by an audience with Sultan Ibrahim at Istana Negara.
His Majesty will also host a state banquet in honour of the president and his delegation.
Wisma Putra said El-Sisi is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to review progress in bilateral cooperation and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Both leaders will then witness the exchange of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between Malaysia and Egypt, followed by an official afternoon tea hosted by the prime minister at the Seri Perdana Complex.
In 2025, Egypt was Malaysia's seventh-largest trading partner in Africa.
Malaysia's total trade with Egypt was valued at RM3.08 billion (US$0.72 billion), comprising exports worth RM2.55 billion (US$0.60 billion) and imports of RM0.53 billion (US$0.12 billion).
From January to August 2026, total trade between the two countries increased by 74.7 per cent to RM3.49 billion (US$0.87 billion).
