MBDK says Deepavali bazaar lot rent rates still start at RM190

SHAH ALAM, Oct 6 — Rental rates for Deepavali bazaar lots on Lorong Tingkat, Jalan Tengku Kelana will still start from RM190, said the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK).

MBDK Licensing Department director Mohd Izzat Mokhtar said this considers the council’s management costs.

“MBDK … agreed to maintain existing rates considering that MBDK has to bear various management costs, including electricity and daily cleaning by KDEB Waste Management,” he told Media Selangor.

He was responding to a statement by National Prosperous Unity Association (PPSK) urging MBDK to lower Deepavali bazaar rental rates by up to 85 per cent, citing a similar move by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

Izzat said MBDK received a request from PPSK on September 30 for lower rent, but noted that neither of the two main traders’ associations in the municipality — the Little India Small Traders Association and the Progressive Traders Association — have submitted similar objections or applications.

“I had a conversation with the PPSK chairman and found that most of the associations’ members themselves did not apply for or participate in the bazaar lot ballot,” he said.

Izzat added that 142 lots have been allocated for the Deepavali bazaar, to be held from October 25 to November 7, with applications open till October 20.

Izzat said the rental rate for lots selling festive essentials is RM580, with a refundable deposit of RM300 and a cleaning fee of RM200.

“For traders selling fireworks, the rental rate is RM1,500, together with a refundable deposit of RM500.

“For balloon traders and those offering henna painting services, the lot rental is only RM190,” he said.

He added that the ballot for early applications was held on September 30, while traders interested in the remaining vacant lots can submit applications from Friday to October 16.

“MBDK will also submit an official response about the application for a reduction in rental rates to PPSK soon,” Izzat said.
