SHAH ALAM, Oct 6 — A 13-year-old male student was seriously injured after falling from the third floor of a secondary school building in Kulim, Kedah, on Sunday.
Kulim district police chief Superintendent Syamsul Sinring said the incident occurred at about 3.40 pm during a break.
He said police received a report from a 48-year-old male teacher after the student was found lying on the floor near the staircase of Block E at the school.
“The complainant then went to the scene and found the student conscious and able to speak before he was taken to Hospital Kulim for treatment.
“During a police interview, the student said he had deliberately jumped from the third floor of the school building while experiencing pressure related to his studies,” he said, as reported by Berita Harian.
Syamsul said the student told police he often compared his academic performance with that of his 16-year-old sister, who is currently in Form Four at the same school.
“According to the student, examinations will be held next week and he was worried that he would not be able to meet his parents’ expectations,” he said.
Police investigations also found that a female student had seen an Instagram Story posted by the student a day before the incident in which he referred to pressure related to his studies and family.
