SHAH ALAM, Oct 6 — The Selangor government is targeting more coordinated development in rural areas next year, including aligning infrastructure needs to ensure their progress keeps pace with the state’s overall development.
State rural development executive councillor Dato’ Rizam Ismail said the initiative would also emphasise cooperation with community committees to ensure development plans are implemented more effectively.
“At the same time, we want to organise more programmes that can boost the economies of rural communities, alongside activities that strengthen unity among different ethnic groups.
“We aim to improve facilities such as community halls, as well as village beautification and landscaping, but we do not want to do away with existing traditional elements.
“Although Selangor is developing rapidly, the character of traditional villages must be maintained so that their heritage features continue to be preserved and the communities’ way of life is not lost to time,” he told Media Selangor.
Rizam previously said all 373 traditional villages in the state would undergo more rapid development while retaining the identity and culture of each area.
He said the initiative would add value, particularly by improving residents’ comfort and well-being, while also boosting local incomes.
He added that the Selangor government remains committed to empowering rural areas through comprehensive planning encompassing infrastructure development and access to technological facilities.
