PORT KLANG, Oct 2 — Forty-three recipients in six districts have benefited from the Selangor Prihatin Government Housing Assistance Programme, involving over RM2.25 million in allocations for the latest approvals.

State executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication Papparaidu Veraman said the programme provides two main forms of assistance: New House Construction, worth RM85,000 per unit, and House Repairs of up to RM35,000, depending on the extent of damage.

The recipients were selected based on their needs and eligibility, particularly low-income families and those living in dilapidated and unsafe homes.

“This programme is indeed an effort by the state government to eradicate poverty. We cannot do this everywhere because sometimes our allocation is limited.

“So, we need to select those who genuinely need assistance,” he said after inspecting a new home built for a programme recipient in Kampung Baru Telok Gong today.

Papparaidu added that the latest recipients included senior citizen Raujah Marsit, who received a new home after her previous residence was identified as dilapidated and unsafe.

Poverty eradication efforts must be carried out comprehensively, taking into account recipients’ needs not only in terms of housing but also their ability to sustain their daily lives.

A hands-on approach is important to ensure assistance reaches the intended groups while enabling the state government to assess residents’ actual needs first-hand.

“We want to see how we can help eradicate poverty more comprehensively. It is not merely a slogan; we go to the ground and see for ourselves what the people need,” he said.

Meanwhile, Royal Klang City Council councillor for Port Klang Mohamad Shahrul Adnan said residents wishing to apply for assistance could obtain the forms through their village heads, community leaders (penghulu), or District Office.

For new house construction applications, applicants must own the land before submitting the completed documents for consideration.

Of the 43 recipients under the latest approvals, Klang recorded the highest number with 13 recipients and an allocation of RM568,120, followed by Kuala Langat with 10 recipients (RM538,127.57), and Sabak Bernam with seven recipients (RM429,866).

Meanwhile, Gombak involved six recipients with an allocation of RM310,000, Petaling with four recipients (RM253,000), and Hulu Selangor with three recipients (RM154,947).
