SHAH ALAM, Oct 2 — The state government is actively coordinating preparations for the Gulf Air Bahrain Malaysia F1 Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), including expediting the necessary applications and approvals to ensure the global sporting event runs smoothly.

“This includes expediting various application processes and issuing approvals as quickly as possible to ensure every stage of the preparations runs smoothly,” state executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato' Ng Suee Lim told Media Selangor.

The coordination is being carried out through cooperation between Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang), federal government agencies, and the event organisers.

Meanwhile, MPSepang member Victor Chong Voon Fei said the Public Works Department has completed road upgrading and resurfacing works around the circuit to help improve traffic flow throughout the race.

“During the race, MPSepang will deploy officers to assist the police in maintaining order at the venue, to ensure the race runs smoothly and spectators remain safe,” he said.

Chong added that several locations were expected to experience increased traffic volumes, particularly the Jalan Kota Warisan-Jalan Labohan Dagang intersection and the roundabout along Jalan Pekeliling KLIA.

In this regard, he advised members of the public with flights departing from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) during the race period to leave earlier to avoid missing their flights due to congestion.

“Traffic volumes during the race will certainly be very high. At the Jalan Pekeliling KLIA roundabout, the 9 o'clock direction leads to the race circuit, while the 3 o'clock direction leads to KLIA. To avoid congestion, we urge everyone to leave earlier or use the KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit services," Chong said.

Yesterday, the Selangor police announced that five screening points had been designated to inspect all vehicles heading towards the SIC.

State police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said officers would check tickets, vehicle passes, and access stickers before allowing vehicles to enter the SIC.

The Gulf Air Bahrain Malaysia F1 Grand Prix takes place from October 2 to October 4 at the SIC.
