PUTRAJAYA, Sept 28 — The government has accorded Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali a State Funeral following her death at the National Heart Institute (IJN) this morning.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he directed Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Chief of Defence Forces General Tan Sri Malek Razak Sulaiman to assist with funeral arrangements and conduct.
“On behalf of the Madani government and the people of Malaysia, I convey my profound sorrow and condolences on the passing of the late Dr Siti Hasmah, who breathed her last at IJN this morning.
“The nation will always remember her maternal figure and appreciate her contributions.
“I have directed the Chief Secretary to the Government and Chief of Defence Forces to assist with the arrangements and accord Allahyarham Tun Dr Siti Hasmah a State Funeral,” he said in a statement today.
Anwar also conveyed his condolences to former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the entire family on Dr Hasmah’s passing.
“My thoughts and prayers, together with those of my family, are with the family as they face this loss. May Allah SWT forgive all her sins, accept her good deeds and place her among the faithful. Al-Fatihah,” he said.
Dr Hasmah died at IJN this morning at the age of 100.
Meanwhile, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil urged television and radio stations to moderate and adjust their programming as a mark of respect following Dr Hasmah’s passing.
“On behalf of the government, I extend my condolences to the family of Allahyarhamah Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, especially to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his family.
“This is a deeply saddening moment. The late Tun Dr Siti Hasmah contributed greatly to the country and was often seen as someone close to the people,” he told reporters after officiating the launch of local mobile operator BeONE Mobile here today.
