SHAH ALAM, Sept 27 — Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) graduates must keep upskilling to ensure they stay industry relevant, said Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC) chief executive officer Harizal Hamid.
“The concept of lifelong learning in TVET is very important as skills must be improved from time to time with the development of new technology,” he said on Media Selangor’s Bicara Semasa programme aired yesterday.
He said STDC helps graduates advance their careers and monitor their professional development and technological proficiency, with some graduates offered placements in upskilling and reskilling programmes to improve their competencies.
“After getting their TVET certification, they enter the upskilling and reskilling category. This isn’t just to introduce (them to) new technology but to upgrade their existing skills,” he explained, adding that these programmes aren’t limited to graduates but also offered to industry practitioners.
Harizal said this approach is important to ensure the labour force is equipped with skills in line with technological advancements and current industry needs.
