SHAH ALAM, Sept 24 — Twelve people were detained at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and around Sepang in raids conducted between August 28 and September 21, said police, according to a report by The Star.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said those nabbed were one local man, four foreign men and seven foreign women, and that they were arrested in 10 raids.
“We seized 671 plastic packets containing compressed chunks believed to be cannabis, with a total estimated weight of 418kg and a value of RM33.4 million,” he said, adding that police also seized two vehicles and foreign currency worth RM37,700.
He also said the foreigners had been offered trips to Malaysia, but upon arrival were told to bring back luggage filled with drugs hidden without their knowledge.
“They were offered trips to Malaysia and, upon arrival, were instructed to bring back luggage that clearly did not belong to them. The drugs were hidden inside the luggage,” he said, adding that the cannabis seized could have been distributed to 1.39 million people.
Shazeli added that the foreign suspects entered Malaysia with social visit passes and are believed to have been drug mules, with the local suspect believed to be the drug runner.
