Care economy financing, training among focuses of 2027 Selangor Budget

BANGI, Sept 24 — Under the 2027 Selangor Budget, the care economy will be further strengthened with emphasis on sustainable financing and training to enhance workers’ skills, said state executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari.

“We have conducted several roundtables on care economy financing to identify more sustainable financing models.

“This afternoon, the state government, through Wanita Berdaya Selangor (WBS) will also be involved in a discussion with the Selangor Wakaf Corporation (PWS) so the care economy can be executed more comprehensively,” she said when met at the Gender Outlook Forum (GOF) organised by WBS at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) here today.

Anfaal also said the state government is looking into ways to strengthen care training modules to improve care workers’ skills ahead of the tabling of the 2027 Selangor Budget in November.

She said the effort is in line with the MamaKerja initiative, which helps working mothers access quality childcare services while allowing them to continue contributing to the state’s economy.

Meanwhile, Anfaal said the state government would map the data of unregistered, informal care workers to identify their needs and determine appropriate forms of support, and help them improve their quality of life.

She added that developing the care economy would require multipartisan cooperation to ensure support systems meet the needs of women at different stages of life.

On November 14 last year, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced the expansion of the MamaKerja initiative with an allocation of RM5 million, providing RM100 in cash aid monthly for a year to working mothers with children aged six and below.
