SHAH ALAM, Sept 22 — Four foreigners were detained at a luxury dental clinic in Subang Jaya for allegedly providing dental treatments without proper authorisation.
They were detained during a joint operation involving the Selangor Health Department’s (JKNS) Dental Health division, Health Ministry’s (MOH) Oral Health Programme, and Immigration Department.
The operation was conducted following intelligence obtained by the authorities about suspicious dental services being offered at the clinic, which was reportedly frequented by customers believed to be in the high-income bracket.
Although the outlet was legally registered as a private dental clinic, authorities found that several foreigners were providing suspicious dental services.
An MOH spokesman said the clinic also employed a qualified local dentist, who was found attending to patients in a separate treatment room during the operation.
During the inspection, two foreign women in their 20s were questioned by enforcement officers. One of the women claimed she was only a health consultant who advises customers and prepares treatment plans for procedures such as dental implants and dentures, but officers found a patient’s teeth X-rays on a computer at the premises.
The woman, who claimed to hold medical qualifications from her home country, was unable to give a satisfactory explanation when questioned about the images and her activities at the clinic.
She also told officers she is in Malaysia as a tourist but could not explain her association with the dental clinic.
Authorities also believe that another foreign man suspected of performing unlicensed dental procedures escaped the premises during the operation, as his bag was found in one of the treatment rooms.
Further inspection revealed medicines and dental equipment brought in from overseas.
