KUALA SELANGOR, Sept 1 — Seven foreigners were found operating businesses at the Taman Industri Alam Jaya night market in Bandar Puncak Alam during an integrated operation by the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) recently.
The operation from 4pm until midnight on August 28 was carried out following public complaints and monitoring regarding local traders employing foreign workers and foreigners doing business at the night market.
“As a result of the operation, a total of 29 inspections were carried out and seven foreign traders were found doing business in the area,” it said.
A total of 36 compounds were issued for various offences, including 18 for operating businesses without valid licences under the Hawkers By-Laws (MDKS) 2007.
A further 15 compounds were issued for failing to comply with notices under Section 109 of the Local Government Act 1976, while another three were issued for failing to maintain business premises in a clean and orderly condition.
MPKS also issued 17 business cessation notices in addition to carrying out seven seizures involving various business goods and equipment.
It said a total of 52 personnel from its Enforcement Department, Health and Environment Department, Licensing Department and Community Development Department were involved in the operation.
In the same operation, the MPKS Health and Environment Department took action against two traders selling live chickens and ducks, seizing 44 chickens and 11 ducks.
The council stressed that enforcement action will continue to ensure that all business activities within its administrative area are carried out legally, orderly and in compliance with licence conditions and applicable laws.
Traders are also reminded to obtain a valid licence before conducting business to avoid enforcement action.
