SHAH ALAM, Sept 20 — A recreational rafting trip involving six friends at Sungai Pertak, Hulu Selangor, turned tragic when a 34-year-old woman died after the raft they were travelling on capsized yesterday.
The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said the incident occurred at 12pm when the group was passing through the first rapid.
The victim and her five friends were thrown from the raft during the incident.
“The victim was subsequently found trapped at the bottom of the river, and her friends attempted to free her from the obstruction,” it said in a statement.
JBPM received an emergency call at 3.52pm before personnel from the Kuala Kubu Baharu Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene about eight minutes later.
Firefighters then helped carry the victim for approximately 1km to a safe area near Kem Rimbayu before handing her over to the police.
The victim was pronounced dead by Health Ministry personnel and taken to the Kuala Kubu Baharu Hospital's Forensic Unit for further action.
The operation, involving six firefighters, ended at 6.30pm.
