Prisons Department vehicles seen at Najib’s residence

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 — Two vehicles bearing the Prisons Department logo were seen entering the compound of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s residence in Langgak Duta here today.

Several officers from the department were also seen inspecting the area around the residence for about 15 minutes before returning to the premises.

However, the reason for the officers’ presence at the residence, where they arrived at about 9.40am, could not immediately be ascertained.

Attempts by the media to obtain further details about the officers’ presence were unsuccessful, with Najib’s special officer Ahmad Lutfi Azhar declining to comment when approached outside the residence.

Journalists gathered there to cover developments following yesterday’s announcement of a conditional pardon for Najib.

His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has consented to grant Najib a conditional pardon, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, subject to the payment of a RM50 million fine.

The Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) of the Prime Minister’s Department said the decision was made at the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya, held at Istana Negara yesterday.

The former Pekan MP has been serving his prison sentence at Kajang Prison since August 23, 2022.
