SHAH ALAM, Sept 19 — Shah Alam recorded one of the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in the country as of 11am today, while two other areas in Selangor also recorded unhealthy air quality.
According to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, Shah Alam recorded an API reading of 156, while Johan Setia and Petaling Jaya recorded readings of 118 and 109, respectively.
Three other areas in Selangor had moderate air quality, namely Klang (92), Kuala Selangor (86) and Banting (81).
Nationwide, 20 areas had unhealthy API readings, with Serian in Sarawak recorded the highest reading at 171, followed by Kuching, Sarawak (170), Sri Aman, Sarawak (164), Seri Manjung, Perak (163) and Samarahan, Sarawak (163).
Several other town in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Melaka and Sabah also recorded unhealthy API readings.
A total of 37 areas across the country had moderate air quality, while 10 had good API readings.
An API reading of 0 to 50 is good, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, and above 300 is hazardous.
Authorities have advised the people to limit prolonged outdoor activities and be alert to API updates.
