SHAH ALAM, Sept 18 — PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has confirmed that police took his statement following remarks he made alleging the United States had offered the party help in 2014 to overthrow Barisan Nasional (BN).
Hadi, who is also Marang MP, said he gave the statement at the Jalan Raja Laut PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur a few days ago, according to a Kosmo! report.
“It (took) less than an hour (for police to take my statement). The rest I leave to the attorney-general.
“If the matter is brought to court, we will bring proof,” he said when met at Rusila Mosque in Terengganu.
At the 72nd PAS annual general meeting in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, earlier this month, Hadi claimed US representatives had offered PAS assistance in 2014, to topple the then Barisan Nasional-led government and take over the administration.
On September 6, the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur rejected the claim, saying Washington has never sought to influence political ongoings in Malaysia.
Police said 12 reports were lodged following Hadi’s statement, and have opened an investigation paper under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
