Five towns in state log unhealthy API readings at 10pm

SHAH ALAM, Sept 17 — Conditions persist in five towns in Selangor that previously reported unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings, with the worst air quality in the state at 10pm logged in Johan Setia (172).

According to the API Management System (APIMS) portal, the other areas with unhealthy readings in the state are Shah Alam (161), Banting (159), Petaling Jaya (155) and Klang (155).

Thirty-one other areas across the country also logged unhealthy API readings at 10pm, with Perak’s Tasek Ipoh and Sarawak’s Kuching both recording the highest reading nationwide at 182.

They were followed by Sarawak’s Serian IPD (180) and Samarahan (176), as well as Perak’s Seri Manjung (176).

Meanwhile, 28 areas had moderate API readings, with four areas — three in Sabah and one in Sarawak — recording good air quality.

An API reading of 0 to 50 is good, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, and above 300 is hazardous.

Authorities have advised the people to limit prolonged outdoor activities and be alert to API updates.
