Five areas in Selangor record unhealthy API readings at 3pm

SHAH ALAM, Sept 17 — Five areas in Selangor had unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at 3pm today, joining 26 other areas nationwide, according to the API Management System (APIMS) portal.

Johan Setia recorded the highest API reading in Selangor at 159, followed by Shah Alam at 156, Banting at 152, Petaling Jaya at 144, and Klang at 116.

Klang earlier recorded a moderate API reading but had deteriorated to an unhealthy level by 2pm.

Perak’s Tasek Ipoh had the highest API reading nationwide at 186, and the state is tied with Selangor for the highest number of towns with unhealthy readings.

Perak’s other towns with unhealthy readings are Seri Manjung (180), Pegoh Ipoh (158), Taiping (156) and Tanjung Malim (115).

Meanwhile, 31 areas had moderate API readings, while six areas recorded good air quality.

An API reading of 0 to 50 is good, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, and readings above 300 are hazardous.

Authorities have advised the public to limit prolonged outdoor activities and be alert to API updates.
