SHAH ALAM, Sept 14 — An SK Setia Alam classroom was destroyed in a fire this evening, with no casualties reported as no students were in the classroom at the time.
Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant operations director Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the agency received an emergency call at 4.20pm.
“When a team from the Bukit Jelutong Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene … it found the location of the fire was a classroom.
“The classroom was 100 per cent burnt and the fire went out before firefighters arrived.
“When the squad arrived, the headteacher said no students were in the classroom and no deaths were reported,” he said in a statement today.
Video clips and pictures of the incident shared on social media showed black smoke rising from the school building.
Several parents said students were assembled in the school field after the incident.
Some social media posts claimed that books and equipment in the classroom had turned to ash.
Ashrul Riezal meanwhile said firefighters did their due diligence and made sure the fire was completely out, and that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
