PUTRAJAYA, Sept 14 — The Public Service Department (JPA) is reviewing initiatives to raise civil servants’ incomes, said JPA director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz.
He said current salaries are above the poverty line and advised civil servants to plan their spending wisely.
“In my view, civil servants earning their current salaries are not below the poverty line; it is simply a matter of how civil servants themselves manage their expenses.
“We are also examining measures that could provide for or improve civil servants’ income,” he told reporters after officiating the Public Sector Human Resource Management Conference here today.
Wan Dahlan noted that salary adjustments for civil servants have been implemented through the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), and new initiatives are subject to the country’s financial capacity.
The SSPA, which came into effect on December 1, 2024, is a major government initiative replacing the Malaysian Remuneration System (SSM).
It was introduced as a reform that established a competitive salary structure and fairer, more transparent performance assessments.
