SHAH ALAM, Sept 14 — Fourteen people, including a child, were rescued after becoming trapped in the middle of Sungai Pertak, Kuala Kubu Bharu, following a sudden surge of water yesterday.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 5.03pm.

Following the call, a team of five personnel from the Kuala Kubu Bharu Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the location.

The firefighters also brought a fire engine to carry out the rescue operation for the victims stranded in the middle of the river.

“The operations commander reported that 14 people were trapped in the middle of the river, comprising 13 adults and one child,” he said in a statement.

The rescue operation was carried out by the personnel with assistance from the Batang Kali Volunteer Fire Brigade (PBS).

Ashrul Riezal said the personnel used a “river crossing” technique to evacuate the stranded victims.

All 14 victims were safely brought to the riverbank.
