SHAH ALAM, Sept 13 — A total of 1,577.6 kilogrammes of recyclable materials were collected through the ‘Trash to Cash’ programme organised by the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) at SMK Taman Keramat and the JKKP Hall in Kampung Pandan Dalam yesterday.
The programme, organised through MPAJ’s Urban Services and Health Department, aims to promote recycling practices and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills.
“At SMK Taman Keramat, a total of 321.2 kilogrammes(kg) of recyclable materials were collected, comprising 60.65kg of paper, 57.35kg of cardboard, 7.85kg of plastic.
“A total of 26.85kg of metal, 0.90kg of aluminium, 45.75kg of electronic waste and 121.85kg of used cooking oil. The sale of one bottle of compost fertiliser was also recorded,” it said in a statement on Facebook.
Meanwhile, the programme at the JKKP Hall in Kampung Pandan Dalam also recorded a higher collection of 1,256.4kg.
The collection comprises 100.15kg of paper, 78.95 kg of cardboard, 157.25 kg of plastic, 255.95kg of metal, 5.5kg of aluminium, 3.75kg of metal cans, 182.1kg of electronic waste and 472.85kg of used cooking oil.
The programme also aims to provide continuous education and promote recycling practices, as well as provide information on proper waste management procedures.
MPAJ will continue to step up similar programmes to encourage community participation in recycling and create a cleaner, greener and more sustainable environment.
