SHAH ALAM, Sept 13 — A scrap plastic processing plant is suspected of causing water and odour pollution in Jalan Udang Galah, Telok Gong, Port Klang, following an integrated enforcement operation by the authorities.
The operation involved the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK), through its Licensing, Health and Enforcement departments, together with the Selangor Environment Department (JAS), following complaints of water and odour pollution in a public drain in the area.
An inspection, including drone monitoring by JAS, found that a scrap plastic processing plant was suspected to be the source of the pollution.
“Further inspection found that the green-coloured water inside the premises was caused by scrap plastic washing activities, while the wastewater treatment plant was found to be not fully operational.
“Following this, the Licensing Department issued a notice of intention to revoke the licence and four compounds against the premises,” it said in a Facebook statement.
JAS Selangor also ordered the scrap plastic washing machinery to stop operating and took samples for further action.
At the same time, seven premises near the drainage system were inspected, with six found to have no industrial licence for 2026.
The Licensing Department issued 12 compounds and one notice, while the Enforcement Department issued two compounds and the Health Department issued one compound.
The Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) also took samples to identify the pollutants for further analysis by the Department of Chemistry Malaysia.
MBDK said it remains committed to strengthening cooperation with relevant agencies through monitoring and enforcement to safeguard environmental sustainability and the wellbeing of the community.
