PUTRAJAYA, Sept 11 — Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo today announced the appointment of the first board of directors of AI Malaysia Bhd, chaired by corporate figure Aireen Omar, in an effort to strengthen the leadership and governance of the institution leading the national artificial intelligence (AI) agenda.
Gobind said the AI Malaysia board of directors brings together leaders from the public and private sectors who have experience in national transformation, public policy, digital economy, investment, technology and AI innovation.
“The appointment of this board brings strategic leadership, good governance, and a diversity of perspectives from the public and private sectors in executing the mandate.
"This appointment also strengthens the capacity of institutions and the governance of AI in Malaysia in executing its national mandate, thereby driving the national AI agenda from strategy to coordinated and impactful implementation, based on accountability and the long-term interests of the country," he said in a statement today.
AI Malaysia Bhd was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on July 28 as a dedicated institution to lead and coordinate the national AI agenda.
As the leading agency of the Digital Ministry, AI Malaysia is responsible for coordinating the national AI agenda, promoting the safe and responsible adoption of AI, and driving the National AI Action Plan 2026-2030 towards achieving the 2030 National AI goals.
Besides Aireen, who is currently a board member of Tune Protect Group Bhd and an adjunct professor at Universiti Malaysia Sabah, four other individuals have been appointed as directors.
The directors are Digital Ministry secretary-general Datuk Fabian Bigar and deputy secretary-general (Digital Development) Ma Sivanesan; Employees Provident Fund chief digital technology officer Muhammad Afhzal Abdul Rahman and Trendcell Sdn Bhd chairman and MyTeksi Sdn Bhd director Adelene Foo Yen Ling.
Gobind added that the next appointments to the AI Malaysia board will be announced later.
