SHAH ALAM, Sept 10 – Selangor para-swimmer Saiful Rizal Abdullah ended his 2026 Malaysia Para Games (SUKMA) campaign on a high note after winning four gold medals and setting a new personal best.
Saiful competed in the 100m breaststroke SB14, 50m breaststroke SB14, 4x100m freestyle S14 and 4x100m medley S14 events throughout the tournament.
He said the achievement also met the target he had set before competing for Selangor.
“Praise be to God, my goal was achieved. I managed to set a new personal record and get gold for Selangor and myself.
"For the individual event, I won two golds and in the team event, I also managed to win two gold medals," he said.
Saiful said his biggest challenge throughout the tournament was maintaining consistency to ensure he could achieve his target of breaking personal records.
He said his mental and physical condition, which was sometimes affected by fatigue, also tested him, but he was grateful to have been able to give his best performance in every race.
"My biggest challenge was to be consistent in breaking personal records. It was quite difficult because there were days when I was mentally and physically tired, but thank God I succeeded," he said.
Saiful also acknowledged that the support of his coaches and parents was one of his main sources of strength throughout his preparations for the competition, alongside discipline and self-motivation to remain focused.
"To get strength, you have to get the blessing of your coach and parents, be disciplined and have your own motto. My motto is, 'enjoy the process, enjoy the pain and enjoy the result'," he said.
