SHAH ALAM, Sept 7 — The Selangor contingent dominated the swimming medal table on the opening day of the Malaysian Para Games (Para SUKMA) 2026 at Selangor Aquatics today.
The host athletes collected 14 medals, comprising seven golds, two silvers and five bronzes.
The Federal Territory followed in second place with five golds, four silvers and three bronzes, while Sabah completed the top three with four golds, three silvers and three bronzes.
Selangor’s gold medals were won by Amirul Akil Mohd I’zzat Emir in the men’s SB12 100-metre backstroke, Ahmad Darwisy Irfan Hishamuddin in the men’s S13 100-metre backstroke and Muhammad Safwan Suhaimi in the men’s SB9 100-metre breaststroke.
Also contributing gold were Durratun Musfirah Nor Ahmad in the women’s S14 100-metre backstroke, Alysha Aryana Mohd Khairul Azli in the women’s S14 100-metre freestyle and Nur Qaseh Qaisara Ahmad Saifudin in the women’s S4/S5 100-metre freestyle.
Another gold came from the mixed S14 4x100-metre relay team comprising Durratun Musfirah, Muhammad Niyaz Mukriz Mohd Nazri, Nik Muhammad Joe Asyraff Nik Rfizal and Alysha Aryana.
Selangor’s strong performance was further highlighted by three national records set by Amirul Akil, Ahmad Darwisy and other swimmers.
Durratun Musfirah also set a championship record.
The swimming competition continues tomorrow, with 26 gold medals up for grabs at Selangor Aquatics.
