SHAH ALAM, Sept 7 – The four Selangor 2026 Malaysia Para Games (SUKMA) events that were previously postponed due to haze will be resumed with preventive measures and continuous monitoring to safeguard the safety and health of athletes and officials.
State executive councillor youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the decision was made through the Selangor 2026 Para SUKMA Contingent Heads Meeting and the Technical Special Committee today.
The events that were previously postponed were the Para Lawn Bowls, Para Archery, Para Swimming and Para Athletics.
He said the meeting decided that the Para Lawn Bowls, Para Archery and Para Swimming competitions would continue with several preventive measures to reduce exposures of athletes and officials to haze.
“Athletes and officials are required to wear N95 face masks while outside buildings or vehicles, they are also reminded to reduce the period of exposure to haze by staying in enclosed areas when not competing or resting,” he said in a statement today.
Najwan added that the medical team of each delegation must conduct health screenings and to ensure that athletes who are vulnerable to haze from participating in the competition.
He said the athletes who are competing must fill out a declaration form to participate during haze conditions while athletes who are not involved in the matches are not allowed to be at the competition venue or in open areas.
Najwan, who is also the deputy chairman of the SUKMA XXII & Para SUKMA Selangor 2026 Organising Committee, said that the Para Athletics event will continue based on the prescribed preventive measures.
"The competition period for each session has also been shortened to a maximum of two hours, namely from 8 to 10 am, 4 to 6 pm and 8 to 10 pm," he said.
The medal presentation ceremony will be held at the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam Sports Complex Hall starting this afternoon and will be held as soon as each competition session ends.
The meeting also determined that all sporting events would be cancelled if the Air Pollution Index (API) reading exceeded 200.
Yesterday, Najwan announced that the four events were postponed after the API reached 169 and was at an unhealthy level.
