SHAH ALAM, Sept 6 — A total of 3,452 underprivileged students from 99 Tamil National-Type Schools (SJKT) across Selangor have benefited from the SJKT Selangor 2026 School Bus Fare Subsidy Contribution Programme, involving RM1.2 million in assistance.

State executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication Papparaidu Veraman said the assistance was provided in the form of RM300 vouchers to help B40 families and residents in estate areas cover their children’s transportation costs to and from school.

He said the assistance was very important for families facing financial and transportation constraints, as it would help ensure students could attend school without disruption.

“This assistance is crucial in ensuring these students can attend school without being burdened by financial constraints, while giving them the opportunity to receive a proper education,” he said after the donation handover ceremony at Perak Jubilee Hall, today.

Papparaidu said the assistance was open to families with a monthly household income of RM3,000 and below, with each family eligible for one voucher.

“Parents must also be registered as voters in Selangor to be eligible to apply for the assistance,” he said.

Papparaidu also added that the state government had received complaints from eligible students who had yet to receive the assistance.

He said the complaints would be reviewed to determine the best approach to expand the programme to more students from needy B40 families in the future.
