SINGAPORE, Sept 4 — Singapore’s air quality slipped into the unhealthy range today for the first time in nearly three years, with the Haze Task Force (HTF) activating its action plans amid deteriorating conditions.
The 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) entered the unhealthy range at 7am, its first unhealthy reading since October 8, 2023.
The National Environment Agency's (NEA) data indicated that by 3pm, the PSI in the Central region climbed to 108, while readings elsewhere remained in the moderate range: East (92), West (90), North (80) and South (77).
In response to the deteriorating air quality, it will begin issuing daily haze advisories from Friday evening, including a 24-hour PSI forecast.
"This can be used by the public in planning their activities and events for the next 24 hours," the NEA said in a statement.
Comprising representatives from 28 government agencies, the HTF coordinates the government’s efforts to closely monitor the situation and minimise the haze's impact on the public.
"HTF agencies will provide further advisories should the haze situation deteriorate," it said.
