SHAH ALAM, Sept 3 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is reviewing both new and existing investigation papers linked to Lembaga Tabung Haji, following findings in the institution’s Royal Commission of Inquiry report.
The New Straits Times reported that MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said the review was carried out by a special committee, which will assess whether pending cases should be reopened and if further action was warranted.
The MACC’s investigations are not simply based on old cases, with officers instructed to act on complaints and information received and follow established standard operating procedures.
“At the MACC level, I have established a committee to review new investigation papers as well as old investigation papers that have yet to be decided.
“There were investigation papers opened previously but, as of today, they remain pending, with no decision made,” he said during a media conference at the MACC headquarters.
Halim added that the committee will examine the status of the pending investigation papers before deciding whether they should be reopened.
“This committee will screen and review the status of these old investigation papers, including those without a decision. A decision will then be made on whether they warrant being reopened,” he said.
Any reopened cases, including those previously classified as No Further Action, will also be reviewed from a legal standpoint.
“Within this one-week period, we will see whether the committee appointed will decide on further action, including prosecution in court. If there is no prosecution, then there will be none,” Halim said.
