Hazardous air recorded at Serian IPD this morning

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3 — The monitoring station at the Serian district police headquarters (IPD) in Sarawak recorded an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 345 as of 9.30am today, placing it in the hazardous category.

Checks on the Environment Department's Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) website showed that four other areas in Sarawak recorded “very unhealthy” API readings: Sri Aman (294), Kuching (273), Samarahan (255), and Sarikei (223).

Meanwhile, 15 locations — eight in Sarawak, five in Sabah, and one each in Labuan and Negeri Sembilan — recorded unhealthy readings.

The locations in Sarawak were Sibu (188), Bintulu (175), Kapit (174), Mukah (171), Samalaju (167), Limbang (155), ILP Miri (153), and Miri (125).

In Sabah, Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic (165), Kimanis (164), Keningau (164), and Kota Kinabalu (163) recorded unhealthy readings. Labuan recorded 160, while Nilai in Negeri Sembilan registered 110.

Nationwide, 45 areas recorded “moderate” API readings, while three areas recorded “good” readings.
