SHAH ALAM, Sept 2 — Johan Setia continued to record an unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 161 as of noon today, while other monitored areas in Selangor recorded moderate air quality.
According to the Department of Environment’s (DOE) Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, the latest readings showed Johan Setia was the only monitored area in Selangor with an unhealthy API level.
Shah Alam recorded an API reading of 98, followed by Klang at 92 and Banting at 91.
Petaling Jaya recorded an API of 84, while Kuala Selangor registered 76.
An API reading of zero to 50 is classified as good, 51 to 100 as moderate, 101 to 200 as unhealthy and 201 to 300 as very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are considered hazardous.
At the national level, haze has also affected several parts of Malaysia, with Sarawak recording the highest number of areas with unhealthy and very unhealthy API readings among all states.
Two areas in Sarawak recorded API readings exceeding 300, placing them in the hazardous category, with Kuching at 311 and IPD Serian at 305.
Sarawak also recorded six areas with very unhealthy API readings, led by Samarahan at 284, followed by Sibu (270), Sarikei (267), Sri Aman (226), Mukah (221) and Bintulu (215).
Residents are advised to monitor the latest API readings and take appropriate precautions, particularly if air quality deteriorates further.
