Former minister in court for remand over Tabung Haji probe

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 2 — A former minister arrived at the Magistrate’s Court here today for remand proceedings in connection with an investigation into findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH).

The man, in his 60s, arrived at 10.25 am wearing an orange Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) remand shirt.

He was arrested at about 4.30 pm yesterday while at the MACC headquarters to have his statement recorded, believed to be in connection with an investigation into a hotel lease involving TH in Saudi Arabia.

The TH RCI report was made public on July 29, documenting various weaknesses in TH’s management and operations between 2014 and 2020, as well as identifying problematic investments requiring forensic audits.

The report also highlighted suspicious transactions and the concealment of information.
