SUNGAI BURONG, Aug 29 – The Selangor Menteri Besar Foundation (Pemerbandanan) or MBI (MBI Foundation) is ready to provide assistance to Selangor people involved in the flash floods and landslides in Nepal.
MBI Foundation head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said his party is currently awaiting further information regarding the identities of the victims from Selangor involved in the disaster.
He said the Office of the Dato' Menteri Besar of Selangor is obtaining information from relevant parties abroad to identify the victims involved.
"At the level of the Office of the Dato' Menteri Besar, I understand that they are also obtaining information from the Foreign Ministry to identify the list of victims in Selangor.
"We (MBI Foundation) are always ready, including to assist in bringing back the victims or their families who are in this state," he said when met by Media Selangor today.
Ahmad Azri said that the forms of assistance that can be channeled include bringing back the victims if needed or assistance to them at the location of the incident.
"The process of bringing them back or the assistance process there, will be examined by the Office of the Dato' Menteri Besar. After receiving the data, God willing, we will think about how we can provide assistance,” he said.
Ahmad Azri also stressed that the MBI Foundation is always ready to help Selangor people who are facing misfortune, including those involved in disasters abroad.
“Yes, we are ready to help and this is not the first time. We have tried many times to help Selangor people who have problems, are involved in disasters, including abroad,” he said.
Major floods and landslides occurred in the Nepal-China border area last Wednesday, which also affected the Gyirong Port border crossing in Gyirong district, China.
The death toll from flash floods and landslides in Nepal reached 623 today, as search and rescue teams continued to find bodies swept away by the rapid currents of the river, Anadolu Agency reported.
Nepalese police confirmed that they had found 616 bodies, including 233 in Chitwan and 158 in Nawalparasi Timur, making it one of the areas worst affected by the disaster.
